The fundamental news for binary betting trades on Monday is centered around the US with the Industrial Production figures due for release in the afternoon ( UK time). The sharp decline in industrial sector activity observed during the final quarter of 2008, continued into the first quarter of 2009. In line with market expectation, overall industrial activity fell 1.8%, but the in the key manufacturing sector output dropped 2.6%. This brought the annual rate of change down to -13.0%, the lowest since June 1975 (- 14.0%), and the three-month on three-month annualised rate of change from -17.7% in December to -21.4%. The worrying thing is that with the January ISM purchasing managers’ index sinking to 32.9, the rates of decline in manufacturing output and overall industrial production are likely to increase further over the next couple of months.

Although the sector represents less than 19% of GDP, such is the degree of weakness that it will have a significant impact on overall GDP in Q1. A further decline of 1.2% is the central expectation for February.
